FAQ
Common questions about capabilities, file formats, data security, and account usage. Capabilities may change between versions — if something is critical to your work, check the current interface.
Product and capabilities
What is GenDocX?
GenDocX is an AI agent centered on Word documents. You describe the task in conversation, provide templates and source materials, and the agent generates or edits the document and delivers an inspectable .docx file.
What can GenDocX do?
Typical tasks include generating Word documents, filling templates, replicating the style of other documents, editing existing documents, fixing some layout problems, and turning supported text formats into Word. What it can do depends on the current version and your input files.
How long does a document take?
It depends on the number of files, content length, layout complexity, and task requirements. Simple tasks may finish quickly; tasks with many source files or complex formatting usually take longer. Review the output rather than judging by speed alone.
Do I need to install software?
No. GenDocX runs in the browser — sign in and submit tasks in the chat workspace.
Files and formats
Which file formats can I upload?
Document tasks may involve DOCX, PDF, Excel, Markdown, plain text, or images, but not every format, archive, or scanned file can be fully parsed in every task. Check the formats and size limits listed in the upload dialog, and verify key fields manually.
Do I need a template or placeholders?
Not necessarily. You can upload an ordinary Word document as a template and explain which information to fill in. Clear field labels, table structure, and context help identify fill-in areas, but results should still be reviewed.
Will the original layout be preserved?
GenDocX processes Word content and formatting according to the task, but pagination, fonts, images, tables, and headers and footers in complex documents can depend on file structure and available fonts. Check the layout afterwards, and state explicitly if certain elements must not change.
How are signatures and seals handled?
Explicitly ask to preserve signature, seal, handwritten date, and fingerprint areas. Do not have the system generate or imitate real signatures or seals. Review these areas afterwards and follow your normal process.
Data and security
Is my data safe?
Before uploading, read the current data processing and privacy policy to understand how data is transmitted, stored, retained, and deleted, and whether third-party services are involved. Do not upload highly sensitive or unauthorized materials without confirming your organization's policy and the product terms.
Where are files stored?
Storage location, retention period, access controls, and deletion are governed by the current privacy policy and your account settings. After finishing a task, clean up files you no longer need and follow your organization's data management requirements.
Account and usage
Is there a free tier?
Available plans and quotas may change. Check the plan information shown in your account.
What happens when I reach the limit?
Once you reach your plan limit, some actions may be restricted. Check the usage indicators and plan details in your account to see when the quota resets and whether an upgrade is needed.
